Week 4 Part A: Defining Target Markets

For this assignment, I chose to go with Set Two because Subway being a national franchised brand and Hungry Bear being a local sandwich shop I thought that it would give me the best representation for target markets. How does a business that is around the United States target so many different people. whereas how does a local business inspire others to eat there as opposed elsewhere?

Subway

Right away on their homepage at the top, Subway has advertised what they are doing to keep local communities safe during Covid-19. When we think of Subway in general the first thing that comes to mind is eating fresh and healthy food which is made clear from their home screen advertisement. They have several different plans that include animal welfare, responsible sourcing and deforestation listed on their commitment page, it is clear that they are involved in many different ways with clear set time frames to accomplish each one. On their menu, they have sandwiches that are catered to staying fit, sandwiches for children, breakfast items and regular sandwiches. The great thing is they have something in their restaurant for every one in your family, whether your trying to eat healthy or not you will always get quality ingredients.

Hungry Bear

Having never ate personally at this restaurant myself this is my first time visiting their website. We are met with advertisements on their homepage that do not necessarily scream healthy but they are appealing. Their about me section is very bland as it does not tell us what the restaurant is about or even how it started, we have no idea what their vision is. The only advertisement's that are seen on their website are regarding their food but towards the bottom of the site we are able to click on pictures that lead to their Instagram. It is clear from a few of these pictures that they have a level of respect for law enforcement and they like fast cars.

Comparison

The most obvious differences are while both sites look to be professionally done, Subway has done more work when it comes to their website. The differences although could also be because one is a local restaurant while the other is a nationally recognized store so the need to hire a marketing team with the sole purpose of keeping the site up to date is a must. If someone enjoys sandwiches, there could easily be a crossover between these two stores while one specializes in what some may call unhealthy food with limited healthy food Subway has a range of items that can satisfy both healthy and non healthy eaters.

The overall message that I got from Subway is that they are slowly working on trying to make the world a better place, when clicking to find their about me section it is instead labeled responsibility. This tells me that they feel as if making the world better is not only a call to action but they feel it is their responsibility to do so, with many different programs and a way to check their progress on these goals it makes a customer feel more positive about ordering from this business. Whereas Hungry Bear, I have little to no idea what their business stands for, there is little to no information that is added to the website on this matter the call to action that stands out is to come hungry. All we can tell is that they sell sandwiches and that they have a positive view of the police, now this doesn't necessarily mean they don't care about the local community we just are missing the evidence of this.

Between the two I enjoy the layout and color scheme of Hungry Bear more, it is easy on the eyes, trendy and it comes off as appealing. When we see the color red this can come across as meat which can help make someone more hungry and willing to order from here. On Subway's website they chose to use a lot of green which can be seen as healthy or lettuce and while these are both good for you they aren't as appealing. Logo wise, I enjoy how they used the Californian Flag and have edited so that he is eating a sandwich. Subway's logo for me as always come across as being on the go, it has arrows on it that seem to be as a starting and end point. After reviewing both of these websites, I feel more proud to do business with Subway but I am also interested in trying Hungry Bear after seeing their food advertisement.
